Traditional Local Marketing and Online Marketing
Although Online Marketing has become more and more common these days, and in many ways more cost-efficient, there are still several types of marketing that are not dependent upon the Internet. However, there is no denying that to effectively market your business locally, it is just as important to use traditional marketing, such as Print Advertising, Free Sample Marketing, Giveaways, Local Event Promotion, as well as online marketing to get the best results. Unlike our pre-technology days, most print advertisements can be used both online and as printed marketing collateral. But it is important to keep in mind both types of marketing so we have come up with a few of the most popular and effective traditional marketing techniques and how they can or cannot overlap with online marketing.
Here are some of the most popular and effective types of Local Marketing:
Print advertising refers to the technique where organizations communicate directly with the consumer through mail, fliers, posters, postcards, brochures, giveaways and various other printed promotional materials. In most cases, printed materials can also be used for online marketing.
This technique caters to the needs and requirements of the existing customers, as opposed to using resources to gather new consumers. This promotes loyalty and product satisfaction and also gives rise to word of mouth marketing among the community.
Free sample marketing consists of giving away a free sample of the product to influence the consumer to make the purchase. This can be accomplished at local or community events, mail, or in conjunction with email or online marketing in the form of coupon codes, downloads, etc.
Freebie Marketing is based on a particular item that is sold at low rates, or is given away free, to boost the sales of another complimentary item or service. It is different than Free Sample Marketing in that it is not dependent on giving away a free sample to influence the consumer to make the purchase. This can also be accomplished at local or community events, mail, or in conjunction with email or online marketing in the form of coupon codes, downloads, etc.
Promotional items are used typically used in conjunction with Freebie Marketing or Free Sample Marketing. Some examples of items would be t-shirts or hats with the company's logo or website information on them, given to a potential consumer for free to build brand awareness, or sold to the consumer, once brand awareness has been established. More examples of promotional items would be pens, totes, business card magnets, hats, cups, etc. This form of marketing can also work together with online marketing, prompting potential customers or fans to visit a specific location or event to reep the benefits of free items or enter into contests (this can also be a means to gain information for use in email marketing), in an effort to gain their business or use your services.
Alliance marketing can be employed by virtually any business when it can find partners interested in mutually beneficial cooperation. Fundamentally, it involves pooling resources—whether those resources are knowledge/expertise, distribution infrastructure, brand recognition/reputation, or simply money—to achieve a result that would be more costly to obtain independently. This form of marketing can be supported by both print advertising and online marketing.
Partnership Marketing is a smart collaboration of two or more organizations with the intent to develop a mid-term or long-term marketing program designed to meet each of their respective business goals. The need for a Partnership Marketing program exists when one organization can accomplish their goals more effectively by leveraging the complimentary strengths of another organization pursuing a like customer base. Partnership Marketing can contribute to increase brand awareness, product distribution, customer acquisition and program funding.
As the name suggests, multiple channels like emails, letters, menus, etc. are used to give information about products and services to customers in the form of cross promotion. This can also be integrated into a Partnership Marketing agreement or plan.
My company hired Gravity Marketing for web design and other marketing services. I was very pleased with the results. They exceeded my expectations and their services were a bargain. Also, their turnaround time was impressive.
